This is a hands on operational role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, and contributing to essential forest management activities. About the role: As a Forestry Operator, you will work as part of a team carrying out various programs that support native forest and plantation harvesting and forest management including road and trail construction and maintenance, biosecurity for vertebrate pests and weeds, , and contribute to fire management and broader forest management operations. You will be working with heavy plant and equipment; contractors and other staff to ensure work is carried out safely, efficiently and in line with operational plans. Other Key responsibilities include: Working safely and effectively with heavy plant and machinery including daily maintenance requirements Work closely with the Fire and Operations Coordinator and other team members to implement approved operational plans Assist with planning and implementation of hazard reduction burning, weed and pest management and other forest management tasks. Monitoring safety of staff, contractors and others in all operations. Monitoring compliance with operational plans and other relevant legislation, licences and codes. Capacity and willingness to participate in forest fire prevention, preparedness, response and recovery Participation in an on-call roster for fire duties, including weekends and public holidays, as required. Ongoing performance will be subject to regular performance reviews in line with organisational requirements. We would love you to have: Interest and motivation in actively managing forest environments Experience in working safely in a high-risk environment. Experience in supervising and working with contractors Ability to interpret and implement operational plans Exceptional organisational skills with ability to plan and prioritise work, meet standards and deadlines. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, yet with a high level of independence. Basic iPad/tablet skills and ability to learn and apply new technologies to your work. Practical understanding of native forest management, fire management, weed and pest control.
