Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) represents the Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi, Mardudhunera, Yaburara and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo peoples, the recognised Traditional Owners and Custodians of Murujuga.Home to one of the world''s largest and oldest collections of rock art, the Murujuga Cultural Landscape holds over one million petroglyphs dating back more than 50,000 years. Recently inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, this globally significant place celebrates living cultural traditions, ancient stories, and the enduring connection between people and Country.Guided by the Murujuga Circle of Elders and governed by a Board of Directors representing each of the five groups, MAC''s mission is to protect and preserve Murujuga''s land, heritage, and culture, while creating opportunities that support and transform the lives of our Members and community.The RoleThe position offers an opportunity to work closely with the Traditional Owners, Circle of Elders and Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Parks and Wildlife Service to deliver the outcomes identified in the Murujuga National Park Management Plan.This position offers training and learning opportunities for Aboriginal people Under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984. Aboriginality is a genuine requirement for this position with preference given to people with a heritage connection to one of the five language groups of Murujuga being Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi, Yaburuara, Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo and Mardudhunera.ResponsibilitiesOperationsUndertakes and supervises operations outlined in the Parks & Visitor Services program and Nature Conservation Services strategic operations plans in accordance with management plans, interim guidelines, budgeting requirements, prescriptions and other departmental requirements.Contributing to short-term park planning activities.Undertaking fabrication, maintenance and installation of visitor facilities and infrastructure, including painting, carpentry, metal fabrication, cleaning and minor maintenance to roads.Undertaking maintenance of park visitor services infrastructure, including litter control and waste management.Implementing recording systems and collecting visitor and natural resource monitoring data according to protocol.Implementing environmental programs, including feral animal control, weed management, rehabilitation of degraded areas and monitoring of endemic species and communities.Participate in on Country patrols.Cultural Heritage ManagementWork and communicate with MAC ''Circle of Elders'' and other Elders as directed by Ranger Operations Manager and/or Senior Ranger.Gather and record Cultural knowledge from ''Circle of Elders'' and or other Elders as directed.Safely record, process, map and store gathered Cultural knowledge and data.Manage cultural processes and protocols.Prepare and deliver training on applicable Cultural Heritage matters relevant to Murujuga.Attend staff training with regard to Cultural safety aspects of Murujuga Land and Sea Country AND Murujuga National Park.Work Health and SafetyEnsure Murujuga and DBCA WH&S process and policies are implemented.Strive to achieve an incident free workplace.Follow and carry out WorkSafe WH&S procedures in the workplace.Ensure all incidents are recorded and addressed as soon as practicable.Provide and apply basic first aid and respond to emergencies when necessary.Deliver and maintain a safe workplace environment.Learn how to provide and apply basic first aid and respond to emergencies when necessary.Take part in Cultural Safety inductions.Meetings / GatheringsAssist Senior Ranger/Ranger Operations Manager with organizing and the reporting of meetings.Attend ''Circle of Elders'' gatherings as directed.Communications & CommunityResponds in a positive and appropriate manner to public enquiries and requests for information and assistance, in accordance with departmental protocols and policies.Assists in the preparation and delivery of interpretative and educational material.Participates in the implementation of community education and interpretative activities.Arranges and participates in public involvement activities, including implementation of volunteer programs and consultation and education relating to management plans and other planning documents and strategies.Performs compliance and enforcement duties, in accordance with the Conservation and Land Management Act 1986, and regulations, Wildlife Conservation Act 1950, Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 as required. Build and maintain community relationships by developing community networks and relations.Assist in Educating relevant parties in Cultural protocol, tradition, safety and protection of culturally significant places consistent with the Murujuga Cultural Management Plan.Special Work RequirementsCulturally sensitive, aware and sensible.Ability to travel when required for work purposes.Have the ability to communicate effectively within a working team.Willingness to represent the Murujuga Ranger Team in a community environment.Selection CriteriaThe following selection criteria outline the skills and experience required to perform this role effectively:Under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, Aboriginality is a genuine requirement for this position with preference given to MAC language group members and culturally initiated or approved MAC applicants.Demonstrate a strong connection to Country and understand the cultural significance of Murujuga for the Traditional Owners.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, show initiative and to work unsupervised.Be physically fit with the ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.A Current Driver''s Licence (C Class Manual minimum.Must be physically fit and able to perform ''On Country'' work tasks and have the ability to pass a drug and alcohol screen and medical.Workplace Safety conscious individual.Interest or experience in working on country and ability to participate in manual activities related to conservation and recreation management; including maintenance and construction of visitor facilities, flora and fauna protection, invasive species control and fire suppression and control.Ability and willingness to be trained in cultural, natural and marine conservation.Demonstrated competence in written and oral communication skills, including the ability to participate in the delivery and development of park related public involvement, interpretative and educational activities, and demonstrated proficiency in word processing, and the use of spreadsheets and database software.Basic knowledge and respect of Murujuga Land & Sea Country and the ability to gain and keep the respect and loyalty of staff and the ''Old People''.Willingness to obtain Australian First Aid Certificate.Ability to participate in and implement operational plans and works programs associated with visitor management and natural resource management, including and awareness of the principles and practices of visitor risk management.Public speaking experience and or ability to present to large groups and or willingness to do so.Certificate II or higher in Conservation and Land Management. (Desirable)Knowledge of the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 associated regulations in particular in relation to compliance management. (Desirable)Demonstrated competence in the coordination and supervision of volunteers.
