NCC undertakes to act in solidarity and partnership with First Nations People in all our work.about youWe are looking for someone who:Has a background in advocacy and/or experience working to protect the environmentHas experience with the NSW (or other relevant) parliamentary system and the range of strategies and tactics deployed through parliament that can move us toward our campaign goalsHas experience in policy development, implementation, and interpretation for advocacy and political engagementIs driven to support NCC member groups, and other partners, to advocate on key environmental issues and build a strong voice for nature in NSWHolds existing relationships in NSW Parliament or has the ability to quickly develop strategic relationshipsWhilst an understanding of contemporary environment issues, policy and law in NSW would be an advantage it is not essential.position summaryThis position plays a critical role in leading NCCs political engagement, monitoring the NSW Parliament for developments affecting climate and environmental issues, and facilitating timely, strategic responses across the organisation.Location:Sydney, NSWSupervisor title:Chief Executive OfficerContract period:12 months with possibility of extensionjobs and responsibilitiesMonitoring NSW Parliament for issues relevant to the climate and environment movement in NSW and communicating these effectively.Tracking the passage of relevant bills, considering what action should be taken by the movement and facilitating reactive campaigning where required.Building and maintaining relationships with a range of NSW MPs and political staffers.Identifying gaps and opportunities in policy and legislation on priority issues.Working with the NCC team on designing and delivering advocacy campaigns which respond to those opportunitiesWorking with the NCC Policy and Advocacy team on policy and research tasks.Connecting with external stakeholders to drive political changeFacilitating effective communication between and collaboration amongst a range of environmental NGOs across NSWkey requirementsTalent & CapabilitiesA sound knowledge and understanding of the NSW political process, power dynamics, and key players.The ability to build and maintain positive, functional relationships and collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders from government, the bureaucracy and civil society.A flexible approach to fast-changing circumstances and priorities.Skills & ExperienceExperience and/or qualifications in law, politics, social science or environmental sciences.Government relations, legislative or issue advocacy campaign experience.Experience researching and identifying opportunities to fill gaps in the environmental policy landscapeExperience understanding the implications of and responding to policy and political developments, and an ability to communicate these implications effectively.Experience bringing together stakeholders and facilitating purposeful communication and collaborative decision-making.EXTRA POINTS FORExisting working relationships with a variety of MPs, staff and media in NSW Parliament and/or government.Active knowledge of NSW environmental law and policy.why us?Working with some of the leading environmental campaigners and organisers in NSW, you will support NCCs core objective of giving nature and our climate a voice.Enjoy flexible working arrangements and leave options and a mission-driven, dedicated team.
