About the Role As a Principal Ecologist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of Biodiversity Australia. Youll lead highprofile projects, manage crossfunctional teams, and drive innovative ecological and social solutions with a balance of Biodiversity Development Assessment and Biodiversity Stewardship Assessment. This role is for someone who relishes the challenge of scaling a business while upholding our commitment to Indigenous ownership and community empowerment. Key Responsibilities: Lead and Innovate: Spearhead complex ecological assessments, biodiversity offset strategies, and conservation projects, including contributions to our landmark 40,000+ hectare Biodiversity Stewardship assessments in NSW, delivering outcomes that set industry benchmarks. Strategic Growth: Identify and develop new service offerings, expand into new geographies, and penetrate emerging sectors, aligning with our mission to drive environmental and social impact. Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of ecologists and environmental scientists, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders, positioning Biodiversity Australia as a trusted leader in ecological and social outcomes. Thought Leadership: Represent the company at industry forums, contribute to policy development, and publish insights that advance ecology and Indigenousled conservation. About You Youre a highly driven individual who combines deep ecological expertise with a strategic mindset and a passion for leadership and social impact. Youre motivated by the opportunity to create lasting change for both the environment and Indigenous communities. To succeed in this role, youll bring: Proven Expertise: A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded) and at least 7 years of experience in ecological consulting or conservation. Leadership Acumen: Demonstrated ability to manage teams, oversee complex projects, and drive business growth with a focus on quality, innovation, and social responsibility. Strategic Vision: A track record of identifying opportunities, developing new services, and expanding into new markets or sectors, ideally with experience in Indigenousled initiatives. Conscientious Excellence: A meticulous approach to work, with a commitment to delivering outstanding results under tight deadlines and complex conditions. Cultural Sensitivity: Experience or a strong willingness to engage respectfully with Indigenous communities, aligning with our social objectives and Indigenous ownership.
