About UsLegal Aid NSW delivers accessible legal services across criminal, family and civil law. We provide advice, court representation, and family dispute resolution through 28 offices and phone-based support, helping people navigate the legal system with confidence and fairness.About The Disaster Response Legal ServiceThe DRLS is a specialist service within the Civil Law Division of Legal Aid NSW. It provides legal assistance to communities across NSW as part of the NSW government response to disasters. Our solicitors work across a broad range of everyday legal issues that arise following disasters including insurance disputes, tenancy and housing and access to government grants. The service is client centred and aims to mitigate the impact of disasters on individuals, families and communities.In response to the Bondi terror attack, a specialist team is being created to support individuals and communities with legal issues arising from the Bondi terror attack. These legal issues include advising on and assisting with applications and appeals under the Victims Support Scheme, applications for business support grants, employment law, and other related legal issues arising from the event. The service is trauma-informed, responsive, and deeply committed to supporting people experiencing hardship in the aftermath of disasters.About The RoleThe Community Engagement Officer will support the delivery of legal services to people and communities impacted by the Bondi terror attack, particularly the Jewish community.The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for developing and managing stakeholder relationships to improve access to legal assistance for individuals, family members and communities impacted by the Bondi terror attack and for facilitating referrals.The role includes coordinating and planning outreach activities and events, and supporting the development and delivery of community legal education (CLE) sessions and contributing to communication strategies.Working collaboratively with other DRLS team members, the role contributes to a holistic legal and nonlegal response to address the complex needs of clients.This role involves working with traumatised individuals and communities and exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing information.About YouYou have experience working as a Community Engagement Officer, or in a similar role, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and stakeholders, including in complex or sensitive environments.You excel at building and maintaining constructive, respectful relationships and have a proven track record of engaging with communities to understand their needs, concerns and priorities.You will bring strong communication and organisational skills and apply a traumainformed approach in your work.
