Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Over the past few years, we''ve built a strong reputation delivering complex data, AI and governance transformations for enterprise and mid-market organisations across Australia.This Senior Machine Learning Engineer role is primarily a software engineering + MLOps position focused on building and operating ML inference and pipeline systems (not deep data science/model training). You''ll work in a cross-functional squad with data scientists and product/BA/agile counterparts, helping move models safely into production with strong engineering practices.Design and build components of an ML platform that supports scalable, reliable model deployment and inferenceDevelop and maintain ML pipelines (deployment, orchestration, monitoring, reliability) with strong engineering disciplineBuild and maintain APIs/services (Python-based) to serve models and platform capabilitiesWork heavily with SQL and data interfaces required to support ML pipelines (light-to-moderate data processing as needed)Implement and improve CI/CD practices for ML services and pipelines.Contribute to system design: propose robust architectures, trade-offs, and operational considerations.Collaborate closely with stakeholders and adjacent teams (project is in an early phase with frequent discussions).Mentor a mid-level ML Engineer within the squad; lift engineering standards and delivery confidence.RequirementsCore software engineering foundation with demonstrated experience delivering production systems, including:Strong Python engineering (clean code, testing, packaging, performance-aware development).Experience building APIs / backend services (REST/gRPC or similar).Strong SQL capability.Experience with systems design (designing maintainable, scalable services/pipelines).Practical MLOps / ML pipeline experience (deployment/inference pipelines; orchestration; monitoring; reliability)Exposure to CI/CD and modern engineering practicesCloud experience in at least one major provider; GCP preferred (team is on GCP), but other-cloud experience is acceptable if you can ramp quickly.BenefitsWe''re not just delivering AI and data projects, we''re humanising them.
