Play a key role in shaping the policy environment for tourism while working with senior leaders, Ministers and agencies across Australia and internationally.12 Month Opportunity Sydney Based RoleAbout The RoleTourism Australia is seeking an experienced Government Relations Manager to play a critical role in strengthening our relationships across Australian Government stakeholders and shaping policy outcomes that support Australia''s tourism industry.This role is responsible for contributing to Tourism Australia''s Government Stakeholder Engagement Plan, a core pillar of our broader Government Relations Strategy. The role focuses on elevating Government understanding of Tourism Australia''s value to industry, protecting and enhancing our reputation across government, and positioning Tourism Australia as a trusted and relevant agency.Key ResponsibilitiesMinisterial & Government EngagementSupport Tourism Australia''s engagement with the Minister for Tourism, key Government agencies and the Parliament.Coordinate Ministerial travel, events, briefings and correspondence.Policy & Stakeholder ManagementMaintain strong working relationships across the tourism portfolio, including Austrade, DFAT, Home Affairs and Department of Infrastructure.Monitor and support policy engagement on priority tourism issues (e.g. visas, aviation).Parliamentary & Legal MattersCoordinate responses to FOI requests, parliamentary inquiries and Ministerial information requests.Strategic Communication & Internal CollaborationPrepare clear, high-quality Government-facing communications.Ensure Government considerations are reflected in internal campaigns and priority strategies.Events & External EngagementSupport MP and Senator engagement at key Tourism Australia events.Leverage events to strengthen short-term Government relationships.About YouYou have a strong understanding of public policy, parliamentary processes and stakeholder engagement. You are highly organised, politically astute, and comfortable operating in complex, fast-paced environments.Key attributesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong influencing and stakeholder management capabilityUnderstanding of government, legal and parliamentary processesTertiary qualification in law, communications, public policy or a related fieldAbility to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality workStrong analytical skills and attention to detailExperience in government, a Minister''s office or a government relations roleProven experience working across agencies and stakeholdersAustralian tourism experience (desirable)About UsTourism Australia is the Australian Government agency responsible for attracting international visitors to Australia, both for leisure and business events.
