Overview Director, Counsel, Business Legal (Fixed Term) An opportunity to join Western Union as a Counsel in Business Legal Affairs, for 12 months on a full-time basis. Play a key role in helping a NYSE listed organization navigate commercial and corporate law by supporting strategic initiatives and business operations across Asia Pacific (APAC) and the Middle East. Role Responsibilities Within the APAC & Middle East Legal Team, youll be assigned primary responsibility for certain workstreams and support other team members as needed. This may include day-to-day legal management of business in certain countries or territories, acting as legal lead on projects, managing interactions with third parties (including regulators), and providing legal support to other stakeholders and functions across the region. Provide timely and commercial legal and regulatory support for BAU operations and new initiatives, partnering with business leaders to execute strategic priorities. Work independently as well as collaboratively within a cohesive regional team. Review, draft, and negotiate agreements for Western Union Consumer Money Transfer, Payments and Digital in coordination with other lawyers, business leaders and internal stakeholders, and provide related legal advice. Demonstrate strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills in applying new and existing laws. Review and advise on new and existing business requirements, drive end-to-end customer value, and maintain a customer-first orientation. Collaborate with team members cross-functionally and liaise with regulators as needed. Role Requirements 6+ years of financial services experience in an international law firm or corporate legal department of a multinational corporation. Alternative language skills may be favorable (e.g., Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese, Indonesian). Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited school of law, admitted to at least one state bar in Australia, or equivalent for key APAC or Middle East jurisdictions. Good communication and rapport with team members and stakeholders. Financial services experience is critical. Payments and licensing experience are desirable but not prerequisites. Ability to assess and respond to business incidents, articulate legal questions clearly, be solutions-oriented and commercially minded, and lead projects to motivate others. This role reports to the Managing Associate General Counsel for Business Legal Affairs, APAC & Middle East (based in Sydney).
